Oftentimes when a client contacts me and informs me that they have been charged with possession of cocaine or heroin, they are obviously quite upset about the charges. In the State of New Jersey, possession of cocaine, possession of heroin or possession of any other narcotic drug such as PCP, ecstasy, or various others is a felony charge. Any individual charged with possession of any of those drugs, obviously including cocaine or heroin, is facing a third-degree felony and up to the potential of five years in New Jersey state prison. Although everybody’s case is unique and different, and it certainly matters how much drugs an individual is caught with, each case needs to be reviewed by an experienced attorney to see what defenses are available to you, to see what was going to happen with your case, where your case is going to be heard, and what the potential outcomes are of possession of any narcotic drug.
